We can cut many materials and engrave almost any material. This production technique has several unique characteristics compared to other production techniques, which brings -depending on the material- advantages and disadvantages.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eSome advantages (depending on the material):\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003e-Laser cutting provides a very fine cut with little material loss.\u003cbr\u003e-The heat-affected zone is very small, leading to minimal thermal distortion of the product.\u003cbr\u003e-The process can cut complex contours without problems, offering great design freedom.\u003cbr\u003e-Laser cutting has high cutting speeds, up to 20 cm\/sec, depending on the material thickness and type.\u003cbr\u003e-The result is a straight, burr-free cut with a smooth surface.\u003cbr\u003e-In most cases, no post-processing such as polishing is needed.\u003cbr\u003e-The process is accurate, with a positioning accuracy of ± 0.1 mm.\u003cbr\u003e-It is a contactless process, which allows for simple clamping of the product.\u003cbr\u003e-It is flexible and can cut many types of materials with varying thicknesses.\u003cbr\u003e-It is possible to switch quickly to another product.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eSome (possible) disadvantages:\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003e-Different material structures can arise due to the heat-affected zone, which can lead to adverse properties such as hardening phenomena, cracking, and reduction of material strength.\u003cbr\u003e-If the cutting speed is too slow, the cut can burn out (this is often the limiting factor regarding thickness).\u003cbr\u003e-The cutting edge of a laser-cut product is not exactly perpendicular because the beam diverges (widens) as it burns into the material.\u003cbr\u003e-Although cutting loss is minimal, it is still approximately 0.2mm. The consequence of this is that it must be compensated for, for example, in tight connections.\u003cbr\u003e-Depending on the material, the maximum plate thickness is about 10mm.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003ch2\u003eWhich materials can be laser cut?\u003c\/h2\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eMany factors determine whether a material can be cut. Usually, the easiest way to determine if a material is suitable for cutting is to test it in the machine, but you can get a fairly good preliminary assessment of a material's cutability based on the points below:\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003e-In principle, only flat sheet material can be cut, as the material must lie flat in the machine.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003e-Most materials thicker than 12mm cannot be cut (exceptions are Plexiglas and materials with extremely low density such as foam). We also do not cut materials that are dangerous (e.g., PVC-containing) and materials that cannot inherently be cut, such as glass, steel (though possible on other types of laser cutters), and carbon-containing sheet material.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003e-The thinner the material, the better the result will be, because the laser beam needs to remove less material. For organic materials like wood, this also means less soot residue on the cut. Materials with high density or thermoplastics (PP, HDPE, Nylon) partly melt back together after laser cutting.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eBelow is a brief summary of different materials we can cut, along with their maximum thicknesses and cutability. The finish of the engraving depends on the material. Engravings on acrylic, for example, turn matte white, and engravings on birch plywood turn dark brown.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eA major advantage of engraving is that it can also be done on objects, as long as they have a (reasonably) flat side. The only materials we do not engrave are those containing PVC (vinyl, faux leather, etc.), and thin, low-density materials (such as thin textiles) are difficult to engrave.
