Additionally, the material is lighter than a glass mirror, making it an excellent replacement for a glass mirror.

Applications

Mirror acrylic has many applications, primarily in decorative industries. Acrylic can be found in display cases, interior design, displays, facade advertising, (name) signs, and models, among other things.

Because the material has high impact resistance and is 25 times stronger and 50% lighter than glass, it is often used as a glass substitute.

Design considerations

There are few restrictions when cutting acrylic. For finger joints, it is important to take into account the thickness tolerances of acrylic to prevent internal stresses and thus cracks or breakage. Also, acrylic in thin or long strips is relatively brittle and susceptible to warping due to the heat released during cutting; keep this in mind in the design.

Laser cutting

Mirror acrylic has protective film on the front, ensuring the mirror is fully protected before, during, and after cutting. The cut is clean, smooth, and the same color as the material. Engraved areas have a slightly whiter color compared to the material.

If the design includes line or surface engravings, the entire design will be cut and engraved in reverse on the back (the design does not need to be mirrored for this; we will do it). Engravings are standardly done on the back of the mirror in reverse to prevent reflection of the engraving. Engraving on the front is also possible, which creates a 3D effect because the engraving is also reflected.

Post-processing

In principle, acrylic does not need post-processing due to the high quality of the material. The material can subsequently be glued, printed, sawn, sanded, milled, and bent. With every process, it is important to consider that the cutting process puts pressure on the cutting edge; if the acrylic is then processed, small cracks may occur in some cases.

To give line and surface engravings greater contrast, they can be filled with paint (color fill). When the excess paint is then removed, the paint remains in the grooves.

Appearance

The material always has protective film on the front; there is no protective film on the back. Engraving lines and surfaces are engraved from the back (in the mirror layer). The material is scratch-sensitive without protective film.

Mirror acrylic reflects like a normal mirror; surface and line engravings have a matte white appearance and a slight 3D effect. All parts are securely packed in a box and, if necessary, supported with wood.
