What is nesting and how do I apply it to my project?

Wat is nesten en hoe pas ik het toe op mijn project? - Het Laser Lokaal

Nesting is the optimization of a drawing to minimize waste material and save on material costs. Fitting the different shapes in the drawing is usually done using nesting software, but it can also be done manually if there are not too many shapes and they are not too complex. Most nesting programs are paid, but there are also free software packages like  Deepnest.io.

How should I nest?

First, it is important to look at the standard sizes of each material, which are indicated on the  materials page. Place all parts within the dimensions of the smallest standard size suitable for your drawing. This minimizes waste material.

Place parts as close together as possible, but maintain at least 5mm distance between parts (unless you want to share cutting lines). If your design allows, you can nest parts within each other. For example, if you have rings of different sizes, they can be efficiently nested within each other.

Do I need to nest myself, or can you take care of it?

It is more cost-effective to nest yourself, but if you prefer us to do it, that is also possible. We have professional software to position large quantities of (different or identical) shapes as effectively as possible. This keeps material costs as low as possible. Not every drawing needs to be nested. In some cases, the extra work or costs do not outweigh the savings on material. Contact us for a non-binding proposal
