Corrugated cardboard is a material that is made up of thin cardboard sheets with a ribbed structure in between. Because the material actually consists of only a few thin sheets, cardboard can be cut very quickly by the laser cutter, which makes the cutting costs relatively low.

We have 2 different types of corrugated cardboard, 3mm B corrugated cardboard (single wall) and 7mm BC corrugated cardboard (double wall). With the 3mm corrugated cardboard sheets, the opening of the channels is on the short side of the sheet. With the BC corrugated cardboard, this is on the long side.

Applications

Corrugated cardboard is a construction material that is often found in displays, promotional items, packaging and 3D models. A big advantage of cardboard is that it can easily be printed beforehand or afterwards.

Because the material and processing are relatively cheap compared to other materials, it is often used for prototypes.

Design considerations

Corrugated cardboard is most suitable for cutting, line engravings are also possible, but due to the strength of the Laser cutters can still allow the engraving lines to penetrate the material a little bit in some cases.

Flat engraving is possible, but not recommended due to the wavy core.

Laser cutting

Corrugated cardboard is cut very quickly, so very little soot remains on the cut. The edges can be wiped with a dry cloth. Protective film cannot be applied to cardboard.

Post-processing

Corrugated cardboard does not need to be post-processed in principle, if necessary the small amount of soot on the cutting edge can be removed with a dry cloth or air pressure. The material is suitable for subsequent painting, printing or gluing with wood glue or all-purpose glue.

Appearance

The plates are brown and have a smooth surface, in some cases the ribs are slightly visible. Due to the internal tension the plates can be slightly warped.
