Acrylic Fluor

Color

Fluor acrylic (PMMA), also known under the brand names Plexiglas and Perspex, is a hard, semi-transparent plastic. The material is very similar to tinted acrylic but distinguishes itself with several unique features. Fluor acrylic is more transparent than tinted acrylic, but edges (and also engravings) light up within the material. This effect can be enhanced by illuminating the sheet from the side. The material is available in the colors orange, yellow, blue, green, and red.

Applications

Fluor acrylic has many applications, mainly in decorative industries, and the material can be found in showcases, interior construction, displays, (illuminated) advertising, (name) signs, and models.

Design considerations

There are few restrictions when cutting acrylic. For finger joints, it is important to consider the thickness tolerances of acrylic to prevent internal stresses and thereby avoid cracking or breaking. Acrylic in thin or long strips is also relatively brittle and sensitive to warping due to the heat released during cutting, so keep this in mind in the design.

Laser Cutting

Acrylic has protective film on both sides, ensuring the sheets are fully protected before, during, and after cutting. The cut is tight, clean, and the same color as the material. Engraved areas have a slightly whiter color compared to the material.

If the design only contains cutting and engraving lines, we leave the film on both sides. If there are engraving areas in the design, we need to remove the film from the top side, in some cases, a small amount of smoke may settle on the material.

Cutting Width 0.2mm (±0.05mm)
Smallest Supplied Shape 6x6mm
Smallest Detail (engraving) 1mm

120x60cm (up to 250x130cm available on request)
Additional Options Double-sided Adhesive Film

Post-processing

In principle acrylic does not need post-processing due to the high quality of the material. The material can be glued, printed, sawn, sanded, milled and bent afterwards. With each operation, it is important to consider that the cutting process puts pressure on the cutting edge, and if the acrylic is subsequently processed, small cracks may occur in some cases.

Appearance

Depending on whether there are engraving surfaces in the design the material has protective film on both the front and back or only on the back.  The material is scratch-sensitive without protective film.

Fluor acrylic has a slight surface gloss and is semi-transparent. Surface and line engravings have a matte white appearance and are clearly visible. All parts are securely packed in a box and, if necessary, supported with wood.
