Hardboard
Hardboard, also known as high-density fiberboard (HDF), is a hard, thin board made by pressing wood fibers together under high pressure. This process gives this material a relatively high density. Hardboard is recognizable by its brown color and high density.
Applications
Because the sheets are thin and relatively cheap, hardboard is suitable for prototypes, covering, packaging, furniture construction, hobby projects and protection.
Laser cutting
Due to the production process, the material retains a black coating on and around the edge. The coating hardly gives off. Protective film reduces the coating on the surface of the material
Cutting width | 0.2mm |
Smallest shape supplied | 6x6mm |
Smallest detail (engraving) | 1mm |
Maximum size | 120x60cm (up to 244x122cm is possible on request) |
Additional options | Protective film, double-sided adhesive film. |
Post-processing
Hardboard can easily be mechanically processed afterwards by sawing, drilling, milling and sanding. The material can also be painted, when applying paint it is important to take into account the moisture absorbing properties, multiple base coats are often necessary.
Appearance
Hardboard is brown in colour, both sides have a smooth surface and do not splinter. The material absorbs water very easily and is therefore not suitable for humid environments.
