Black corrugated cardboard (E-Flute) is a sturdy, lightweight, thin type of cardboard characterized by a through-and-through black color. The material consists of 2 thin cardboard sheets with a corrugated sheet in between, making it not only relatively sturdy but also quick to process. The channels run parallel to the longest side of the sheet. 

Applications

Black corrugated cardboard is a constructive material commonly found in displays, promotional items, packaging, and 3D models. A major advantage of black corrugated cardboard is that it can be easily printed on either before or after processing.

Because the material and processing are relatively inexpensive compared to other materials, it is often used for prototypes and POS applications.

Design Considerations

Corrugated cardboard is most suitable for cutting; line engravings are also possible, but due to the power of the laser cutters, the engraving lines may still slightly penetrate the material in some cases.

Surface engraving is possible but not recommended due to the wavy core. 

Laser Cutting

Corrugated cardboard is cut very quickly, resulting in very little soot residue on the cut. The edges can be wiped with a dry cloth if necessary. Protective film cannot be applied to cardboard. 

Post-processing

Corrugated cardboard generally does not require post-processing; however, any small amount of soot on the cutting edge can be removed with a dry cloth or air pressure. The material is suitable for painting, printing, or gluing with wood glue or all-purpose glue afterwards.

Appearance

The sheets are black and have a smooth surface; in some cases, the ribs are slightly visible.
