Fibernyl (Vibers) bioplastic is made from Elephant grass (Miscanthus Giganteus), PLA and starch from a waste stream of the Dutch potato industry. Elephant grass is a very sustainable crop that grows in the Netherlands, captures 4x more CO2 than trees and does not require irrigation, fertilizers or pesticides. Advantages of Fibernyl bioplastic include: low CO2 footprint, biobased, biodegradable, natural look & feel. The material is designed and produced in the Netherlands and available in 3 colors: white, black and brown (natural).

Applications

Fibernyl bioplastic is an excellent decorative replacement for regular plywood. The material can be found in luxury packaging, POS materials and displays, signage, interior applications and labels.

Laser cutting

The material cuts like regular plastic, the cut is clean and tight. This also applies to surface engravings. The cutting process can cause deposits on the underside of the material, this can be prevented with protective film. Residue on the top is mainly caused by surface engravings, but cutting and engraving lines also contribute to this, residue on the top of the material can be prevented by protective film on the top. The yellow residue is most visible in the white variant and can be removed by sanding.

Appearance

The material is basically a light brownish color with clear fibers and may differ slightly in color than indicated in the photo, this has to do with the production process of the material. In addition, post-processed colors black and white are available, both of which are colored through and through.

The material is slightly rough on one side and smooth on the bottom. The material is flexible and feels like flexible plastic.
