Protective film and adhesive film for laser work

Protective film protects a surface during production; adhesive film allows for attachment. These are different choices.

Protective film and adhesive film are similar in material choice to additional finishes, but they have a different function. Protective film helps protect the visible surface during production and processing. Adhesive film adds a self-adhesive backing for mounting.

Protective Film

Some sheet materials are supplied with film as standard. If another protection option is available, you can select it with the material. Non-standard protective film is an additional priced option.

Check which side is the visible side. For mirrored acrylic, the reflective side is the front. A film protects against some signs of wear and tear, but does not prevent every risk during transport, assembly or further processing.

Adhesive Film

Adhesive film is used when a part is later attached to a clean, suitable surface. The correct adhesion depends not only on the laser part, but also on the substrate, load, temperature and use. Test the complete application when the bond is critical.

Adhesive film always costs extra. For suitable foam products, an adhesive layer can be offered; foam does not receive protective film.

Consider cutting lines and loose parts

A self-adhesive back does not change which shapes are cut from your file. Very small parts can be more difficult to process and position. Think in advance about the mounting direction, alignment and how the backing is removed.

Check the option with the specific material

Not every combination of material, thickness and film is available. The material page and ordering environment show the current possibilities. If the desired option is not listed, do not choose based on another material product but discuss the application in advance.
