Cardboard is lightweight, easy to process, and suitable for more than just a first sketch. The right type depends on the desired stiffness, edge, foldability, and lifespan.

Wood Pulp Board for Flat, Sturdy Components

Wood pulp board has a calm surface and is often used for kit components, model work, and presentation parts. It is suitable when you need a flat and relatively dimensionally stable component without the wood look of plywood.

Solid Board for Models and Layers

Solid board is suitable for scale models, stacking layers, templates, and light presentation parts. Choose the thickness based on detail, stiffness, and the number of layers in your design.

Corrugated Cardboard for Lightweight Constructions

Corrugated cardboard derives its stiffness from the corrugated core. The direction of the corrugation affects bending and the appearance of the edge. Take this into account for long parts and connections. Small details or narrow ridges can be more fragile due to the open structure.

Cut Edge and Engraving

The laser-cut edge becomes noticeably darker and can vary depending on the type of cardboard. A line engraving is often clearer and faster than a large area. Make a test part first when fine text, a fold line, or a connection is important.

From Prototype to Series

Cardboard is suitable for a quick model, but also for recurring sets and temporary displays. For a series, check if the chosen board type, grain direction, and thickness need to remain consistent. Consult the specific material product for current properties and available thicknesses.
