Not every laser-cut construction needs to be glued. A product can be built to be demountable, adjustable, or movable using bolts, nuts, pins, spacers, or a designed pivot point.
Choose the connection based on function
A bolted connection is suitable when parts need to be detachable later. Pins help with alignment. Spacers create space between plates, and a pivot point can form a simple hinge. The fasteners themselves are only part of the delivery if agreed upon in advance.
Consider the fit
Nominal material thickness and actual thickness can differ. The kerf also affects holes, slots, and snap-fit parts. Therefore, do not design to a theoretically perfect size and test critical connections with the final material.
Avoid weak edges
Do not place holes unnecessarily close to a cut edge and provide sufficient material around load points. The required distance depends on the material, thickness, load, and use. For a load-bearing or safety-critical application, the suitability of the construction remains the responsibility of the client.
Test the smallest functional set
First, only make the parts needed to assess fit, movement, and assembly. After a successful trial, you can order the full product or series.
