Okoume plywood (waterproof)

What is this material? Okoumé plywood consists of multiple layers of reddish-brown okoumé veneer. The board is lightweight and exterior glued. The surface has a more natural, structural character than the calm surface of birch or lime plywood.

What is it suitable for? This material is suitable for signs, displays, interior components and projects in more humid conditions. For long-term outdoor use, the surface and especially the cut edges must be carefully finished and maintained.

When designing. When making connections, consider the actual board thickness and the grain direction. Knots, plugs, and transitions between veneer layers may be visible. Therefore, do not place critical visible parts as if every board is completely uniform. We place the most beautiful side up in the machine.

When laser cutting and engraving. The laser produces a dark brown to black cut edge. Engravings become dark and are clearly visible on the reddish-brown wood. Smoke residue can occur around cuts; protective film largely limits this.

Finishing and maintenance. For dry indoor use, light sanding or finishing may suffice. Outdoors or in humid conditions, all sides and cut edges must be appropriately sealed, painted, or stained. The suitability of that finish remains dependent on the application and maintenance.
