PE soft foam

What is this material?PE soft foam is a lightweight, closed-cell polyethylene foam. It is softer and more compressible than PE hard foam and springs back around delicate products. The sheets are dark gray to black and are supplied in thick versions.

What is it suitable for?This foam is suitable for soft case inlays, filling, protective packaging, dampeners, and decorative layers. It is especially useful when the material needs to conform around a product and absorb light pressure.

When designing.Take into account a wide cut, rounded details, and the strong compression of the material. Accurate fits require play and a practical test. Long or thin parts can relax after cutting and thus change their dimensions slightly.

For laser cutting and engraving.The laser makes a clean but slightly slanted cut. Due to local melting, the cut edge may feel somewhat sticky. Surface engraving results in a relatively deep recess; very fine engravings or sharp details are less suitable for this soft material.

Finishing and maintenance.PE soft foam can be fitted with double-sided adhesive film. Protective film is not possible. You can trim the foam with a knife or hot-knife. Test glue, paint, and heat on a scrap piece first, as polyethylene is difficult to bond and can deform when heated.
