A front panel or enclosure part often seems simple, but small errors in holes, cutouts, or assembly order can render the entire part unusable. Therefore, design based on the actual components and mounting points.
Use component dimension data
Don't just copy the external dimensions of a switch, connector, or display. Also, check the required mounting opening, flange, mounting holes, cable clearance, and the orientation in which the part will be mounted.
Establish a reliable zero point
Measure holes and cutouts from a fixed edge or a clear reference point. This prevents small rounding differences from accumulating over multiple dimensions. Check at least one known overall dimension after exporting and uploading.
Deliberately combine cutting and marking
Contours and holes are cut. Text, symbols, and position indicators can be added as line or area engravings. Keep markings legible and assign a recognizable line color to each operation.
Material and thickness determine the construction
Acrylic, plywood, MDF, and other plastics differ in stiffness, edge, weight, and suitability for fasteners. Do not choose the thickness based solely on appearance. Screw connections, snap-fit parts, and narrow strips require sufficient material around holes and edges.
First create a fitting test part
For a new panel, first order one sample or a small test strip with the critical openings. Mount the actual components and check accessibility, fit, cable clearance, and legibility. Then use the corrected file version for series production.
