Products and parts
Kits and Product Assemblies
Sets of matching sheet metal parts that together form a construction kit, housing, consumer product, or other three-dimensional structure.

Components that together form a single product
We cut flat parts that are clicked, stacked, screwed, or glued after production. This can be a one-off model, or a building kit where the same set is produced repeatedly.
What can you have made?
The construction determines which material type, thickness, and fit are suitable.

Educational building kits
Complete component kits for learning, discovering, and self-assembly.

Click-and-connect constructions
Flat parts that fit together without complicated tools.

Modular product sets
A fixed base with variations, extensions or replaceable parts.

Compact flat packs
Products that are packaged flat and only assembled on-site.
Materials that often fit well
These are logical starting points, not strict rules. Compare the properties and available thicknesses with the function of your design.
MDF
Even and predictable for prototypes, games, and constructions with many fitting connections.
View materials →Plywood and timber
For strong, lightweight constructions and products where the natural wood appearance remains visible.
View materials →Acrylate
For colored or transparent structural parts; connections require extra attention as the material is less forgiving.
View materials →What makes or breaks a good building kit
These choices directly influence assembly, robustness, and reproducibility.
Test connections
Tabs, slots, and finger joints are dependent on material thickness and kerf. When creating a new construction, first make a fit test or prototype.
Logical parts set
Give parts recognizable shapes or markings and check that the set is complete and can be assembled in a logical order.
Material direction and surface
With wood, grain direction and visible side can be important; with acrylic, color, gloss, and transparency determine the product's appearance.
Ready for repeat production
After a successful proof, you can reuse the same production files. For reorders, price and availability are recalculated.
That's what it looked like in practice
Work actually produced by Het Laser Lokaal, with our role and material choices described as concretely as possible.

Dinosaur model kit
For the Naturalis gift shop, Het Laser Lokaal, in collaboration with Wahoe, designed and produced a dinosaur model kit made of 3mm MDF, featuring an engraved logo and numbers.

Wooden book with engraved cover
A loose-leaf book, designed by the author, was given a wooden cover of 1mm mahogany plywood, held together with a fabric hinge and bookbinding screws.

Dodecahedron candle holders
For Qlimax, Het Laser Lokaal laser-cut and assembled 1,000 dodecahedral candle holders with cut-out logos. These were given a fire-retardant treatment for this project.
