What you need to determine beforehand
Create closed letter outlines
Convert text to outlines. For text cut out of a panel, decide how to retain the centres of letters such as A, O and R.
Plan the mounting
Include mounting holes or a positioning template in your drawing. Consider the mounting surface and whether you want separate letters or a complete panel.
Check the viewing distance
Assess small text and narrow letter strokes at actual size. The material colour and background together determine the contrast.
Consider the environment
For outdoor use, check the properties of the specific material. Wood species, sheet construction and finishes respond differently to moisture.
