Not every material can be safely cut or engraved with a laser. The composition is more important than the appearance of a sheet or product. When in doubt, we will assess the material before it goes into the machine.
Materials we do not process
We do not process materials that can form harmful gases, dust, or residues when heated. These include, but are not limited to:
- PVC and vinyl-containing materials;
- PVB;
- PTFE, also known as Teflon;
- carbon fiber and carbon composites;
- leather or artificial leather with chrome VI;
- materials containing halogens, including fluorine, chlorine, bromine, or iodine;
- materials containing epoxy or phenolic resins when their composition makes them unsuitable for laser processing.
We also do not cut metal. Products that appear to contain only metal or have an unknown coating will be assessed in advance.
Pay extra attention to fire-retardant materials
A designation such as fire-retardant does not specify which additives have been used. Therefore, request a safety data sheet or product specification. Without reliable composition information, we may refuse the material.
Own material or an existing product
Do you want to have your own material cut or an existing product engraved? Please provide the material name, manufacturer, and available technical information. For a product, photos, dimensions, weight, and the desired position of the engraving are also required.
This list is not exhaustive. A material not mentioned here is not automatically suitable. The Laser Lokaal may refuse an application if the composition, form, or processing poses a risk to people, machinery, or the product.
