Black MDF

What is this material?Black MDF is a fiberboard to which black dye has been added during production. This makes not only the surface but also the core black. The material has no visible grain direction and a calm, matte appearance.

What is it suitable for?It is well-suited for displays, indoor signage, prototypes, decorative panels, and interior or design components where a dark, continuous color is desired.

When designing.Because the board is black all the way through, visible cut edges remain unobtrusive in the design. Avoid very thin shapes under tension and do not use the material for load-bearing parts or moist applications.

For laser cutting and engraving.Cut edges and engravings remain black, visually matching the surface. Smoke residue can occur around cuts and engravings, but due to the dark color, it is less visible than on light MDF.

Finishing and maintenance.Black MDF can be sanded, glued, and painted. Be aware of MDF's strong moisture absorption and use it dry and indoors. A finish can protect the surface but does not make the board suitable for outdoor use.
