An engraving in acrylic does not achieve the same contrast on every color and finish. The type of material, the side being engraved, and the chosen processing together determine the result.
Line engraving or area engraving
A line engraving follows a vector line and is suitable for fine text, contours, and markings. An area engraving fills a closed shape and is more noticeable, but requires more processing time. For both, use a visible line color and assign the process after uploading.
Cast and extruded acrylic
Cast acrylic is often chosen when a clear engraving or a special color is important. Extruded acrylic has a consistent thickness and can be suitable for clear functional parts. Always check the description of the specific material; not every color and thickness is available in both versions.
Mirror acrylic requires attention to the side
For mirror acrylic, the reflective surface is considered the front. An engraving and the reading direction must therefore be consciously prepared. Before ordering, check how the relevant product is offered and which side should be visible in the final product.
Contrast varies by color
An engraving can appear differently on dark, light, transparent, and fluorescent variants. White or very light acrylic does not automatically provide strong contrast. Order a material sample for color and surface and a test part when the readability of the engraving is critical.
Prepare the file for production
Convert text to outlines, use closed shapes for area engraving, and remove overlapping engraving areas. After uploading, check whether all lines have been recognized and assigned to the correct process.
