Protective film on acrylic: when should you remove it?

Keep film where it helps protect the surface during handling. Remove it when you need the visible face, and consider the selected operation.

Protective film is a temporary layer on the acrylic surface. It helps reduce scratches and contamination during processing and transport. It is neither a permanent finish nor adhesive backing for mounting the part.

Keep it while it helps

The film can protect a visible face during handling, trial assembly or mounting. Remove it when you need to inspect, clean or treat that surface. Avoid getting glue, paint or dirt underneath its edges.

Do not use sharp tools directly against the acrylic to lift a corner. Start carefully at an edge and support small parts while peeling.

Engraving may need different preparation

A cutting contour and an engraving area affect the surface differently. Suitable protection depends on the operation and side. The material page and portal show available film options for the selected product.

Do not add another film to replace an unavailable option yourself: its composition and adhesive may affect the laser result.

Paint, adhesive and colour filling

For finishing, identify the surface the product will contact. Follow the manufacturer's instructions and test the complete combination on an offcut. Do not expose film to weather or heat for extended periods without product-specific guidance.

Protection or self-adhesive backing?

If you need a self-adhesive back, that is a different option from removable protective film. Read the distinction in protective film and adhesive backing.
