Which material do you choose for a nameplate or signage?

Indoor and outdoor signs have different needs. Choose for viewing distance, cleaning, weather exposure and fixing method.

You can choose a nameplate in a reception room almost entirely based on appearance. Things work differently outside: there the same board has to deal with moisture, sun, temperature differences and wind. The best choice of material does not start with a color sample, but with the place where the sign will hang.

Inside, appearance plays the leading role

Wood, MDF and acrylic each give a different character. Also consider reading distance and contrast. A subtle engraving can be beautiful up close, but disappear from five meters away. Individual letters, an engraved plate or multiple layers each require a different method of attachment.

View at logos, letters and signage which parts we can cut and engrave from sheet material. If the sign will be in a restaurant, shop or other busy environment, also take cleaning and scratch sensitivity with you.

Outside does not consist of one situation

A sign under an awning will endure something different than a freestanding sign in full sun. Therefore, only use product information that corresponds to the exact material variant. “Plastic” is no guarantee for years of outdoor use, just as a beautiful type of wood is not automatically a suitable facade material.

In the material overview you can compare colors and plate types. For long-term outdoor use, it is wise to assess supplier properties, finish and construction as a whole.

Before cutting, think about assembly

Where are the holes? Can thin letters be sufficiently supported? Is there room for spacers? We can prepare holes, positioning jigs and other mounting options, but do not assemble on location. The subsurface and structural safety are the responsibility of the executing party.

A full-size trial helps with important signs. For separate lettering, read about preparing a wall logo. Inspect the smallest text, visible face and chosen mounting in actual light. We made separate parts for The Factory's large wall logo. The The Factory case shows how material, scale and positioning determine the final appearance.
