What is this material?Biopanel is a dark brown sheet made of industrial hemp and bio-PLA. According to the manufacturer, the material consists entirely of rapidly renewable, plant-based raw materials. The matte surface has a slight texture and the colour may vary slightly from sheet to sheet.
What is it suitable for?Its natural appearance is well-suited for displays, signage, interior details, labels, and other visible parts where a dark brown sheet with a recognizable material structure is desired.
When designing:When making fittings, take into account the actual sheet thickness and the specified thickness tolerance. Do not design fine details on a completely uniform surface, as colour and texture may vary slightly due to the composition.
For laser cutting and engraving:Biopanel can be laser cut and engraved in both lines and areas. Residue or marks may appear on both sides around cuts and engravings. Protective film can reduce this, but it may not prevent all traces in every configuration.
Finishing and maintenance:Carefully remove any loose residue and first test cleaning or finishing agents on a scrap piece. BioPanel states that the material is fully recyclable and industrially compostable. Based on an LCA, the manufacturer reports an emission of 0.02 kg CO₂ per kg of sheet and guarantees a durability of at least ten years for outdoor signage.
